Eco Coconut Matting the Traditional Coir Door Mats
We have been making eco coconut matting the traditional coir door mats for a very long time. In fact, the roots of Make An Entrance stretch back to the 19th Century.
Originally partially sighted and blind people made traditional coir door mats in workshops around the UK. They were run by the charity Royal National Institute for the Blind.
Today we still stitch our traditional mats by hand in the same way we always have; they are made to size you need in a range of thicknesses to suit your needs.
What Is A Hand Stitched Coir Mat?
It is our partner in India who makes the giant rolls of coir. These rolls of coir are made specifically for us.
Our craftsmen then take this Eco Coconut Matting cut it to the size you need, and hand finish your bespoke doormat here in the UK. The same way they have been made for decades.
What makes it Eco Coconut Matting?
Coir fibre is a waste product. It's the fibrous husk that surrounds the coconut. Using coir to make doormats is a great environmental option. It uses a waste product to do a great job. Then at the end of its life is can be composted to help other plants grow.
Because coir (coconut fibre) is totally biodegradable, when your mat eventually wears out you can simply throw it onto the compost heap.
Any of our woven back coir mats can be classed as eco coconut matting as they're plastic free and totally biodegradable too.
